I would disagree with the statement that it doesn't have meaning to show artistic framing of the fundamental flaws of the current system. All must take their lesson, but preaching to the converted is one of the least succesfull strategies. However one would try to create some critical reflection on the modes of consumption and the sytems we have become part of and reproduce because then we might think that art as structural expression of esthetics is a instrument to invoke thoughts and emotion.Well let's see a good discussion on content and intent of Ecotopia. And well a tent with purely artistic framing besides a cinema with documentary like work, I think both valuable. Maybe pick up the line with the art team again. We don't only want a different world we need to realize there is no magical other than us, all we put into it we get out of it.In Sollidarity! On Thu, Nov 17, 2011 at 6:29 PM, Mark Petz <ravenwyn@gmail.com> wrote:
It is good people offer what they have. BUT Personally I would rather NOT show this at Ecotopia(Mailing list information, including unsubscription instructions, is located at the end of this message.
I think there is nothing of substance for an ECOTOPIA audience (I am pretty sure everyone at Ecotopia will know all this that is here). And there is nothing practical for what people can do.Technically the film is put together OK (although reading some subtitles or hearing all the french clearly can be difficult at times), but it is only vagueries and with no direct messages as to what to do next or what you might do or what anyone is doing in praxis. It is also so mixed with different things; migration, G8 and climate change with no red line properly connecting them.I don't think it has particularly good artistic merit either and is too long. If something is to be shown better would be something like Coalition of the Willing's film or The Story of Stuff - or perhaps something like The Real Dirt on Farmer John - that at least has a positive message that people can equate with and take action on.There is so much that needs doing it seems a waste to show such a movie that is so empty of meaningful content.markus petz---
