Hello d(e)aer everyone!:)

The year 2012 is approaching with all its unknown and controversial essence while there is one thing we know for sure – there is going to be an Ecotopia meeting in Weitzgrund in January (6-8), and you are kindly invited to take part in it. There was already an official Ecotopia meeting this year in Janswalde in August 1 to 7 (minutes http://goo.gl/NsH56), just before the climate camp in the same place, next to the cloud factory of VattenFAIL company, where we, the people from a number of countries, surrounded by the apocalyptic vews of the broun coal smoke, discussed many things about previous and future Ecotopias, and came up with many ideas and inspirations, so we decided to keep in touch for further steps to make Ecotopia 2012 happen. Here we are – with this invitation!

So, if you have not yet been in Weitzgrund (about 90 km from Berlin), there are some things you may want to know about this place: it is located in the middle of a forest, not far from where deers meet (male deers come from op to 60 km far to meet the females here), and it’s also where the center of former DDR was. Besides – there is a big cozy house (the house where Wam lives) which has enough room for many people to come together and to enjoy a warm and creative atmosphere, which is very necessary for planning something like Ecotopia.

So, if you are up for it, please schedule your time the way that you make it to Weitzgrund in January 2012.

Dear Ecotopia friends,

In 2 weeks from now our preparation camp "Ecotopia 2012" will start. As said it is more an preparation camp as a real Ecotopia, we expect about 25 till 30 people, who will not all arrive directly on the first day (1st August), so if you are still thinking to come be aware of that, by the way we will not start the "meetings" about who, how (and where) Ecotopia 2012 before the 4th of August. The first 3 days we will be more busy with building up the infrastructure of the camp.

The Ecotopia preparation 2012 will take place on the same site as the Int. Climate and Energy camp 2011 in Lausitz, which will start directly after our camp (7th till 14th August http://lausitzcamp.info) and during our camp also the infrastructure of the Climate-camp is build up (do not worry there will be also others be side us for creating the infra structure). Nevertheless before and even when the infrastructure stands it would be so luxurious as last years Ecotopia, so be prepared.

If you have a tent it is good to bring it with you, since especially in the first weeks there will not be so many extra tents as last year (we hope to build up the famous Ecotopia circus-tent during the first days, but there will not be this nice beds (and spare sleeping bags) as last years, so if you like to sleep "softly" you have to bring matress with you). For the rest take everything with you what you take with you on a "normal" camp or vacation (Remember also rain and warm clothes are maybe not bad). Futheron ofcourse musikintsrument are welcome, good spirit, materials about actions and a lot of good ideas.

The first week (Ecotopia) cost a daily donation for the food (just give what you can miss), but for the Climate-camp the organisers hope with a donation of at least 10 euro per day (for food and camp (if that is to much for you help in the Kitchen :-)).

Janschwalde where the camp take place is very easy to reach by public transport (it lays very near to Cottbus, which is at the border to Poland). And in the area there is a lot of browncoalmining (that's why the Climate camp is taking place there).

Liebe Ecotopia Freunde,

In 2 Wochen startet unsere „Ecotopia 2012 Vorbereitung Camp“. Wie gesagt, es ist eher eine Vorbereitung camp als eine echte Ecotopia gathering, wir erwarten deshalb nicht viel mehr als etwa 25 bis 30 Menschen, die auch nicht alle direkt am ersten Tag (1. August) anreisen werden, wenn Sie also immer noch daran denken zu kommen, kannst du sicher sein dass wir unsere "Meetings" darüber, wer, wie (und wo) Ecotopia 2012 nicht vor dem 4. August anfangen. Die ersten 3 Tage werden wir mehr beschäftigt sein mit dem Aufbau der Infrastruktur des Lagers.

Die Ecotopia Vorbereitung 2012 findet auf dem gleichen Gelände wie das International Klima-und Energie Camp 2011 in der Lausitz, die direkt nach unserem treffen startet (7. bis 14. August http://lausitzcamp.info)
und wir bauen auch während unseres treffen die Infrastruktur von Klimacamp auf (keine Sorge, es werden auch andere Leute da sein die spezial für die Aufbau kommen). Trotzdem vor und selbst wenn die Infrastruktur steht wird es nicht so luxes als letzten Jahr Ecotopia.

Wenn Sie ein Zelt haben, ist es gut, ihn mitzunehmen, da vor allem in den erste Woche wird es nicht so viele zusätzliche Zelte wie im letzte Jahr geben (wir hoffen mit den Aufbau von unsere berühmten Ecotopia Zirkuszelt in den ersten Tagen, aber es wir werden nicht von diese schöne Betten (und ErsatzSchlafsäcke) haben wie letzte Jahre, wenn Sie "weich" schlafen willst muss du dass selbst ein „isomatte oder so“ mitnehmen). Weiteres soll alles andere auch mitnehmen, was sie auf eine "normale" Camp oder Urlaub mitnehmen wurden (Denken Sie auch daran regen und warme Kleidung ist vielleicht nicht schlecht). Und naturlich musikintsrumenten, gute laune, info uber aktionen und viel gute pläne.

Die erste Woche (Ecotopia) Kosten einer täglichen Spende für das Essen (nur spende, was man vermissen kann), aber für das Klimacamp hoffen die Organisatoren mit einer Spende von mindestens 10 € pro Tag (für Lebensmittel- und Camp (wenn es das ist zu viel für sie kannst du vielleicht in der Küche mithelfen oder andersins die nütlich machen:-)).

Jänschwalde, wo der campplatz ist sehr einfach mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln zu erreichen (es legt ganz in der Nähe Cotbuss, die an der Polinische Grenze liegt). Und in der Gegend gibt es eine Menge von braunkohletagebau (deshalb der Climate Camp findet dort).

2011 is a remarkable year so far, lot's of actions (especially since Mar 11th) and work (by now also the last bill of Ecotopia 2010 are paid)

Time to think ahead... towards next year

We like to invite you to take part in the preparation for Ecotopia 2012. (Which most likely will take place again in Wiesenburg (the town likes us and would love to have us back)

We like to meet us from 1 to 7 August 2011 (beside preparation meeting we also will have a bit of action, fun and workshops)

We will meet us in advance of and on the place of the International Energy and Climate Camp's in the Lausitz (8- 15 August 2011, you are invited to join also this camp) in Jänschwalde near Cottbus (in Germany, near the polish Border)

Hallo Friends,

First of all we wish you a very good and above all environmental friendly (ecological) 2011… Here in Germany the year started with lot’s of snow, than rain and floods around all the bigger rivers…. And not only here, but it seems everywhere in the world the climate has decided to show that it is not just a rumour, but it is really happening the climate is changing… With other words reasons enough to wish you more than ever before a lot of sustainable energy for all your environmental actions this year….

We excuse ourselves that we haven’t informed you about what has been going on around Ecotopia in the last months, this newsletter is therefore more an explanation what has happened and were we stand at this moment.

Financial “problems” after Ecotopia 2010

After Ecotopia 2010 we in the Fläming started full energy preparing the next Ecotopia, but after a few weeks it became clear that we could not invest the same amount of energy straight away as we had shown in the months before. Some of us invested so much time as volunteer that they first had to find so paid work in order to be able to pay of their rent, telefons, other bills and as well as private loans they had taken up in the preparing time of Ecotopia. Others were confronted with private (family) developments through which they weren’t able to spend all the time in preparing Ecotopia 2011 as well as they wanted.

But above all the nearly 17.000 Euro which was invested into the infrastructure of Ecotopia 2010 and which was not taken in as participantsfee, donations or profit became a bigger problem than we thought. More precise, Ecotopia 2010 aimed at a break even by an average of 300 people a day, however mainly due to the rain (it never rained so much in August in the last 100 years), the average participation was not more than 200 persons per day. That means the running cost (food, electricity, water, renting bikes, tents, etc.) we all were able to pay, but most of the investments (building wood, toiletwagens, tent, electricity cables, water pipes, but also postcards and other promotion material) not.

Some rumours went around that on Ecotopia some people didn’t pay enough or even nothing for their stay or whatever they drank out of the Ecobar, this however may be true, but after going through all the bookkeeping accounts it can be said that that this amount of people was so incredible small, just a handful, if so much, that it would not much have changed the overall accounting, there were clearly enough just not enough participants. And the costs for stayed nevertheless the same.

We are furthermore happz that the Eco-system worked very well and we thank all the participants for the honesty they showed accounting their own private exchange rates.... This among all the other very positive experiences gave us the feeling that Ecotopia 2010 was a very succesfull gathering and that was improved by the many postive reactions we got afterwards.

After Ecotopia we hope to overcome this financial hole by organising Ecotopia 2011 again in Wiesenburg and try to overcome the winter with loans, donations and possibility that we could get fast funds for the next year, although some fundraising actions (thanks to all the people and organisations who donated) brought together nearly 5.000 euros the situation became more and more critical since the organisation who was responsible for our finances wanted to clear up the situation before the end of the 2010. This resulted in a few months of very heavy discussions and ended a few weeks ago in a “solution” that a few people (mostly Dorothee and Wam) overtook personal the responsibility to repay all the remaining debts (nearly 12.000 euros).

Ecotopia 2011

All in all what happened made it nearly impossible to really concentrated ourselves on the preparation for the next Ecotopia (2011). Especially Dorothee and Wam had to find possibilities to earn privately as soon as possible enough money to fullfill the promise that they pay personal the remaining money back, and since they are still not able to copy themselves they spend more time working to earn money and not on preparing Ecotopia.

Therefor it seems that a big Ecotopia 2011 in Wiesenburg will be a big wish but not more than that. At least we do not see how we will be able to find time and energy enough (on our overloaded workweek) to invest in the preparation. Beside the fact that nobody is having any resources left to invest in promotion or all other things which had to be done.

Ofcourse it is a pitty that the good experiences of Ecotopia 2010 would be without a directly (any) followup, we still are sure that besides this money hassle thing Ecotopia was nevertheless a big success. We also hope that we are able to finish this whole financial challenge by coming summer and are full of fire to concentrate ourselves again on the realisation of dreams, Ecotopia and an ecological Camping and festival place in Wiesenburg-Bahnhof. Also the town of Wiesenburg has shown big interest in it, they are more or less disappointed that we seem to be not able to realize Ecotopia this year again in their town. But are very willing in all ways to support us in any way in realizing it in 2012.

Our proposal is to organising in this year in August a small Ecotopia preparation camp in our region, especially for people who are interested in active helping to prepare a bigger Ecotopia again in 2012 on the same place as last year.

But if there are people around Europe who like to organise Ecotopia 2011 somewhere else that would be also fantastic. Maybe we can combine it with other planned sommercamps, f.e. in Wendland or somebody, some organisation is busy with planning something bigger for this sommer and is willing to host Ecotopia. That is ofcourse up to all of you.

Es ist ganz kürz und in telegramm style

1. Anti Atom Demo

Morgen 18 September ist die große Anti Atom Demo in Berlin, wir hoffe das viele von euch dahin fahren. Schön wurde sein einander dort zu treffen, ich (wam) wird bei die demowagen von .Ausgestrahlt sein (fangt um 12 uhr an wahrscheinlich bei Friedrich-List-Ufer/Washingtonplatz, da sind noch helfer nötg).

Weiteres wenn du mit bus oder zug fährt erzähl die leute über deine erfahrungen auf Ecotopia bitte...

2. Abbau Ecotopia 2010

Im wochenende 25 und 26 September gibt es noch mal ein abbau wochenende, die eco bar sollte noch weg (und abtransportiert) fühlt und noch mehr von die klein kram. Am 28/29 September kommt die Gemeinde Wiesenburg und Landkreis Potsdam-Mittelmark das gelände abnehmen und es soll dann eigentlich genau (besser) aussehen als wie wir es gekriegt haben.

Jeder die zeit hat is willkommen (und wenn jemand ein auto mit anhänger hat um so besser)

3. Ecotopia 2011

Erstmal am seite http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=146576302043583 habe sich schön fast die 1/2 so viel menschen angemeldet als diese jahr und wir haben noch mehr als 300 tagen bist Ecotopia. Wenn du (noch) nicht die zeit gehabt hat zu gucken bitte tu das noch...

Und lade deine (facebook) freunden ein, wenn jetzt schön so viele menschen sich anmelden wachst für uns die sicherheit das tatsächlich viele kommen...

4. Finanzen Ecotopia 2010

Es is NICHT so das Ecotopia 2010 verlust gemacht hat, diese gerücht tut die runde is aber ein false vorstellung von die sachen. Es ist so das wir NICHT genügend teilnehmer gehabt habe um alle investitionen die wir im vorfeld (mit hilfen von viele menschen die uns geld gespendet oder ausgeliehenen haben) gemacht haben nicht an teilnehmer beitragen wieder zurück haben.

Hauptsachlicht weil August 2010 die nächste August monat war seit 1901 sind etwa 1/3 von die menschen die erwartet haben (und die sich mehrfach vorher angemeldet haben) nicht gekommen. Trotzdem waren die infrastruktur ausgelegt für erwartete 300 bist 400 menschen.

Das die nicht gekommen sind resultierte in ein minder einnahme von sicher 15.000 euro und das ist etwa das betrag was uns jetzt fehlt, dagegen über steht aber das Bahnhof Wiesenburg voll steht mit sachen die etwa die selbe wert haben und nächstes jahr nicht wieder angeschafft werden müssen.

Menschen die uns helfen können diese vorübergehende finanzloch durch spende oder langfrustige (1 jahr zB) daleihnen über die winter helfen können biete meldet euch bei uns (info@ecotopia2010.org), jeder hilfe und tip ist hilfreich.

We wanted to send you a nice colourfull last newsletter from ecotopia 2010, to invite you for the last weekend of Ecotopia 2010... however how do you put all those colourfull pictures and atmosphere in a small newsletter in between all the daily activities, therefor this time no pictures... no extra information, but only this invitation:

The Ecotopians of 2010

ps... some results we produced less garbage with around 200 people a day as a 3 normal german families, we used less than 12 liter per person per day, had over 200 workshops and cultural events, lot's of rain and still a very good time, our almost 75 ecotopia bikes have been used heavily, lot's of positiv reactions from the those people passing by... our ecorate has the incredible exchange rate of 0.90 euro....

ps2... before we forget we have had a nice Ecotopia 2011 meeting, the group decided that also next year an Ecotopia in this form will take place, we hope that it will take in Wiesenburg at the same place (but therefor the towncouncil will still have to decided)

ps3... even when Ecotopia 2010 in our eyes became a succes, over 1000 people came, we have to admit that most of them did not stay long enough to finance this year Ecotopia totally, we took in enough participants fee to pay for all the running cost, the investment we made to build up the camp however are still not financed, however when Ecotopia 2011 takes place at the same place (again if the towncouncil of Wiesenburg agrees) we think we will be in the black figures again.... of course we are still over for donations.... one way is to come in great numbers the last weekend....

ps4... on monday we will start to take down this years Ecotopia, people who like to help are welcome

Still 10 Days Ecotopia

News

Medicine Story, �ff �ff, Gretchen Dutschke, Helga Reidemeister, Filmfestival Heinrich B�ll Foundation, BambooBikes, Loesje, Milanomi and of course Rampenplan, jus a handfull of the geusts which have been in Ecotopia in the last 10 days. We had almost 126 workshops, allmost 7 filmevenings, a children camp with far more kids than we thought would come, a art-symposium with artists from all over Europe, a very inspiring talent-show of all the generations who are on Ecotopia, a few concert nights and many many daily guests... our villages has become a very lively place to be....

The coming weekend we will be part of the yearly "Park-Festival" of Wiesenburg, a cultural happening in the tree-park next to Ecotopia, which attracks every year more than 3000 visitors, on this festival this year of course also an Ecotopia stage with music groups of our camp. On Sunday we will have a very fantastic culture happening on Ecotopia which music group from the Middle East (The Musicians for Peace) and a very special group which plays with music and sounds which comes from the Alp region) and some other surprises.

We can tell you here many more things which are still planned and coming, but better is you come and be part of it......

How to come there...

For those who like to play with online maps... the coordinates of Ecotopia are Latitude 52.102166� and Longitude 12.434504�

By Train
One of the most environmental ways to come to Ecotopia is by train, since the place is directly next to the Railway Station of Wiesenburg/Bahnhof...
At this moment the train from Berlin to Roslau and v.v. is not driving every hours and not very late, but that will change in the coming years, a pity not before Ecotopia this year, but nice for the future. However the train from Berlin to Belzig, what is about 10 km from Wiesenburg is driving more regurlar, when you arrive too late in Berlin, you still can take the train to Belzig, in the trainstation there you will find Ecotopia information and a telefon number you can call, we take care that there will be a kind of shuttle driving....

By Bike
An other elegant and propriate way to come to Ecotopia is ofcourse to come by bike. The nicest way is to get to the R1 (http://www.euroroute-r1.de), which goes with it 3500 km straight through Europe and nearly passes by Ecotopia... The nearest place it passes by is the small Village of Grubo, between Belzig (coming from Berlin) and Roslau (coming from the west), so if you follow the R1, coming from Berlin or Lutherstadt Wittenberg, and leave the R1 in Grubo, going north to Jeserig in the direction of Wiesenburg, you will pass by Wiesenburg/Bahnhof the Ecotopia entrance is to be found if you go directly right after passing the rails and follow the signs (about 400 meter).

By Car (or Bus or Camper)

But maybe there are still people who can't come any other way than by car, we have parking place (also special for Camper), to find Ecotopia you have to drive to Wiesenburg and from there to Wiesenburg/Bahnhof (direction of Jeserig), coming from Wiesenburg you will pass by an old tankstation at the right side of the streets, about 150 meter further you will see at the left side of the road the Ecotopia parking place, park your car there, walk 100 meter back on the B107 and on your right there will be a little road bringing you straight into the middle of Ecotopia.

What to bring...

First of all bring your clothes, and think about it that Ecotopia is camp and not and not a hotel, allthough we have more stars above it. Try NOT to bring anything what can hurt the environment, so choice envronmenetal friendly soap, shampoo, ect. to bring wth you, avoid throw-away material, we really like to have the absolute minimum of waste. When you have one bring a tent with you. And if possible come by bike, or bring your bike with you in the train. If you play or want to play an instrument, please bring it with you, there are many people you can preform for, or practice with. You don not bring spoon, knife, plate, and so, since Rampenplan has everything with them you need to eat with. Try to avoid to bring drink and food to Ecotopia produce by multi nationals who are not respectng the human and nature rights. Would be fine if you bring a good spirit with you, not needed but it makes life easier. Ofcourse all the needed document to come into Germany.

Do not forget to bring material with you from your action group, your organisation, etc.

We are looking for people who...

Ecotopia is self-organised...that means that most of the activties and "jobs" will be announced every morning on the "morning circle" and people can volunteer for them, however there are ofcourse some "jobs" who are a bit more "specialised". Jobs like helping with first aid, helping with the particiapants registartion, making the online and printed newsletter, camp fire making (during the summer our area is really dry, therefor making fire need some experience), cooking for the workcamp (from 17 Juli onwards), water, electricity, sanitation jobs, helping creating a youth programme... if anybody outthere think she or he has some experience with one of those "jobs" please contact us info@ecotopia2010.org. If you have other qualities from whch you think they can be helpfull please let us know about it.

Travelling together to Ecotopia

We have opened a new page on our website where you can ask for or offer a place to or from Ecotopia (by bke, by car, by train), http://travel.ecotopia2010.org do not hesitate to use it. If you like to travel together this is one of the places to look for somebody to travel with you.

We also like to give you the tip to ask for travel space in your local action paper, internet blog, social network, you never know what they come up with, and it is a bit of promotion for Ecotopia as well.

Futheron on our website we have a forum and in this forum we have a special part for organising your travels to Ecotopia together, however up to now not many people have use the forum and this possibility, nevertheless we get all most every second days private emails from people who like to travel together or looking for a possibility to come cheaply to Ecotopia 2010, for example this one from one of the music groups which plays in Ecotopia: " .... anything beyond that is a blessing for which we would be grateful.

ECOTOPIA 2010 1st WEEK NEARLY OVER

Message for new Ecotopians

We do our best to answer all new participants applications and private emails at this moment but don't be angry if we haven't send you anything so far. Let's say to we accept all partipants, also those who did not send an application (yet).

In Russia big parts of the country are standing on fire, because it hasn't been raining for months, in Pakistan big parts of the country are under water since it has been raining.... in China.... in.... the climate change is happening, just as we speak, new ways of living together with our natural environment and which eachother are needed more than ever before. Ecotopia is one of those place where we try to find these new ways, we invite all of you who are not yet there to come in the coming two weeks and help us creating this new living together....

The first week of Ecotopia will end tomorrow, by now all the infrastructures which were not the fully 100% finished by the beginning, last Sunday, are up and more than running, some are even improved already. We have for example in the middle of Ecotopia a waste research institute which takes care that we will be a real 0% waste camp, or at least that all our waste is checked and double checked before we give it the wastecollectors, remarkable how much less waste we produce since this institute started working.

Like on every Ecotopia the night from 5 on 6 September was a night to remember Hiroschima, with about 50 Ecotopians we joint a very moving remembering celibration in the nearby town of Bad Belzig. The celibration took place on a lake side, a very impressive film was shown how the bomb was dropped and afterwards the local female Mayor remind that mankind should not longer invest money in the destruction of the world but try to find way to save her. Than 65 candles were let in to the water representing the 65 years which went by since the bomb was dropped.

On Thursday the artproject/symposium "Planet B" has started, straight next to the central village sqaure of Ecotopia a group of artists from all over Europe are creating their view on our planet. Rumours are going around Ecotopia what happens in those big white tents, but besides the artists nobody really knows, we are looking forwards to next monday when they will open their gates and share their creations with the rest of the world.

Besides from many 100's of daily visitors, from whom surprisingly are coming a lot directly from the surrounding, say the "normal" families and "housewives" who are very interested in what is happening in their neighbourhood and open for talks... it is not like "monkey-looking" in the zoo as we were a bit afraid of in the beginning, also over 300 Ecotopians have stayed or are still staying at Ecotopia, on this moment (Saturday 7 August there are about 234 people staying at Ecotopia).

Another surprise is our Eco-Rate, our own currency, works, and better as we hoped for, we said that 1 Eco represent 1/1000 of somebodies monthly income and some of us were afraid that the exchange rate would be rather low in the end, that the average exchange rate would be something even less as 0.50 Euro as we hoped for, however at this moment the exchange rate stands at 0,81 Euro, which we think is a succes. B ut talking about finance after just one week is not so clever, we are still hoping that we will be able to close Ecotopia in two weeks without looses and hope enough people will come the next two weeks to make that possible.

You have still more than 2 weeks to come and see for yourselfs, in the coming two days the last "missing lnks" will be finished and ..... (come and see)

A very small first newsletter from Ecotopia to tell you that it has started, most old-Ecotopians who arrived yesterday were surprised with the amount of things and facilities which already were build up and working, the sentence "this is the first Ecotopia I have been to were the .... has already build up and is even working" was heard regurlarly on the camp. Other new comers, yesterday more than 100 people arrived, were just surprise by the camping ground... "I feel I have jump in an other world" more than one person said....

You have still almost 3 weeks to come and see for yourselfs, in the coming two days the last "missing lnks" will be finished and ..... (come and see)
